Honey Dripper and Tea Etiquette

by Ronald
(Ohio)

Question:Can you please advise me on the use (or non-use as the case might be) of honey and a honey dripper when drinking tea? I haven’t been able to find any etiquette relative to this. Thank you in advance for your response.

Answer:
Hello Ronald,

Thank you for your inquiry.

You are right, it is hard to find any info on a honey dripper, but like other sweeteners, it can go on the tea tray itself. If you are setting up a buffet and are expecting a lot of your friends to use honey, I would recommend setting out additional spoons so everyone can take some honey and use that spoon for their tea. Otherwise, it might take too long waiting for everyone to let their honey drip off.

Also, if guests will be using the honey at the table, I would recommend putting it on a small platter or saucer to help catch any drips.

Hope this helps. Feel free to write back if you have more questions.
