Red Hat Tea Party

This site wouldn't be complete without mention of a Red Hat Tea Party!

When I see ladies about town with their flamboyant clothing, I feel a twinge of jealousy - I am not there yet! There is always laughter and lively conversation when you see their groups. Even when you see one by herself driving or walking along, you will see a twinkle in her eye and a hint of a smile. You know she is anticipating the event she is going too or is relishing the event she just came from! The unique bond these women share is really something to see. It is as close or closer than a relative or life long friend.

Hats off (or maybe I should say 'on') to the ladies with the Red Hats!

A tea party is almost synonymous with the Red Hat Society. It's because they know it is the absolute best way to pull friends together. No matter what the occasion, a birthday, book club, card club, Needlework club, or the I-just-want-to-enjoy-my-friends-club, a tea party is just the right thing.

Not Familiar With RHS?

The RHS was started by Sue Ellen Cooper. A quote from her sums up the spirit of the these ladies:

"The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan.(What's elan? I had to look it up too. This is what the dictionary says: 'dash; impetuous ardor') We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next."

To learn even more about the RHS, visit their website. These are women who have dedicated their lives to others. Now since they have most of their responsibilities taken care of, they take some time for themselves to spend with friends of similar circumstances. The only requirements are to be 50 or over,(younger ones are pink hatters) and wear the signature red and purple to organized events. Sounds simple enough!

Their 'mission' is to "help gain higher visibility for women in our age group and to reshape the way we are viewed by today's culture."
