Tea Party Fundraising Ideas ~ Activities

by Beverly
(PA)

Question:
I was wondering if you could give me some ideas for having a fundraising tea. Outside of the regular things like different teas, finger sandwiches, cakes, cookies, etc., I want some kind of activity to go along with it...such as a fashion show, etc. Any ideas to make it an interesting fundraiser idea? Thank You! :)

Answer:
Hello Beverly,

Yes, there are lots of things that are proven to be successful!

The most common activity is a Tea Party Hat Show/contest. Make sure guests are informed in the ad or invitation that this will take place. There are a couple different ways I recommend judging the hats.

The first way is to select a 'panel' of honorees. These can be local or, if your fundraiser is really big, they can be of State or National fame. A few occupations to consider asking:
~Local officials: Mayor, Commissioners, Police and/or Fire Chiefs

Local Business Owners: Restaurant owners, doctors, lawyers, other businesses like book stores, counselors, and insurance agents.

The second way is to assign a Hostess to each table and then have each Hostess be the judges.

Another idea for raising funds is to have a tablescape contest. Local businesses can 'sponsor' a table, or just ladies from your group. Their responsibility would include the centerpieces, place settings, and any other accoutrements that may be needed. Food and beverages are normally provided by the group putting on the tea party fundraiser.

Guests are normally the judges for this and ballots are printed up with all the tables listed, and are then passed out as guests arrive. Allow time for the guests to browse around at the beginning(before any food is served)and vote, marking which table on their ballot they think deserves 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Ballots are then counted up by someone you designate before hand.

Prizes are awarded for all the activities/contests. These can include gift certificates donated by area businesses, tea gift basket, or lovely tea pots or tea sets that are also donated.
